What Is Solar Power?
|
Solar power is the cleanest, most viable form of renewable energy available to help power your house. Solar Power uses solar panels to turn sun light into electricity. You can then use this solar electricity to power your home. The availability and wide use of solar power shows exactly how versatile it is as a source of energy. The technology and the systems are becoming smaller, more efficient and better looking than ever. Solar energy is a great way to add to the value of your home and reduce your environmental impact.

How Does Solar Power Work?
|
When the sun is shining on the solar panels they generate solar electricity. This electricity is then fed to the inverter which converts it to mains voltage. During the day if you are using any appliances, the solar electricity will be sent to power your appliances. If no energy is being used while the system is producing electricity, the inverter feeds this energy into the electricity grid. At night, your house draws energy from the grid. Your energy provider (Energy Australia, Integral etc.) then pays you for any electricity that the system feeds back into the grid. With a Grid Connect System you do not require batteries and you will never run out of power as you have the electricity grid as a back up. In addition to this, no changes will be need to made within your house regarding power points or how you use electricity.

Benefits of Solar Power:
|
Generating your own electricity will help reduce your electricity bill, saving your money
|
- The Federal Government’s Photovoltaic Rebate Program along with the Renewable Energy Certificates will help you save money, meaning solar power systems are now more affordable than ever.
- Produce clean electricity and reduce the impact of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. With a 1Kw installation you could effectively remove 1.65 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere (or a small car off the roads for over 8 months).
- Add value to your home
- Helps to meet energy requirements for new homes (eg. NSW BASIX, 5 star rating systems)
- Once the system has been purchased, electricity is generated from a ‘free’ resource - the sun
- Solar modules can be integrated into the building in the form of windows, walls, roof tiles or pergolas.
- Solar power can supplement or provide all your electricity consumption.
- Additional solar modules can be added later, to increase the size of your system.
- Most solar modules have a warranty of more than 25 years and there are modules in operation, which were commissioned over 30 years ago. Solar panels can last up to 40 years!
